The Problem...
Early Intervention Program (EIP) students consistently do not meet standards on the Problem Solving portion of high stakes test.
The state annual measure objective (AMO) has increased by ten points over a 2 year period and my schools CRCT math performance is steadily decreasing. We did not make AYP last year and barely made it the past few years. The math portion of the CRCT has gone from computation to mostly problem solving. My objective as a teacher is to create critical thinkers by the time the students leave my classroom. However, as an Early Intervention Program teacher, I am challenged with my student’s drive and ability to be successful at math problem solving. My research will explore the impact of teaching the strategies of problem solving daily to these at low performaing students.
